ISLE OF RONA IMAGES - KAYAKERS

Ed and Joe visited Rona three years ago. Then they arrived on a windy grey night and were very happy to find that Rona had a comfortable Bothy with showers and washing facilities at Rona Lodge. Ed and Joe are from Florida, America (although they did not kayak from there!). The came with their pal Mallaig based Kayaker Roger. On returning to Rona this year they were caught yet again in the usual Summer gale, a remnant of hurricane Bertha. They missed their scheduled stop on Rona due to being storm bound in Staffin. So they stayed for one night only and would have liked more but they have a tight timescale. They left Mallaig on the x of June and to-day they are on the East coast of Scotland having travelled up the canals and Loch Ness.  Ed is 73 Joe is 76!!!! You are never too old.

Update From Joes Daughter:

'They started their trip in Mallaig, where they arrived from the US around June 17th or so, and were greeted with rough weather and winds.  They did an acclimatization paddle to get used to their gear on about the 18th - going to Old Forge and Loch Nevis.
They started paddling out from Mallaig to Skye on the 20, and arrived in Camasunary around the 21st.  I believe they travelled to the southwest of skye near Ramasaig and Lorgill and were marooned for a couple of days there. I think they had to be rescued and brought by ferry to Uist.  About the 27th they were near Neist Point lighthouse at the top "left lobster claw" (the western peninsula) of northern Skye north of Galtirgill.  Then they went to Loch Dunvegan.  (you'll have to get from them whether they paddled or took the ferry, I know there was a point where they weren't able to paddle).  I believe they had to be rescued at Loch Dunvegan due to the storms and rough weather, and they met up with the kayak club and might have been given a ride to Kingsburgh or Loch Snizort.  Then they paddled to Berneray Island in the Sound of Harris, and then back to Skye then to Port nan Long and Carinish to Loch Eport to Killegray to Obbe to Uig to Kilmelaig, to Stenscholl.  I think a storm kept them in Stenscholl for a bit before they were able to paddle to Rona.

I think you've been following them since Rona, but they went to Applecross and down and eventually back to Mallaig, and now they are exploring the mainland through Loch Ness and north past Inverness and up the Black Isle and around.
